Announcing the Hama Hama Oyster Rama!
Come celebrate the tideflats on Saturday, May 21st at the first ever Hama Hama Oyster Rama! From noon until 6 pm we’ll be leading tours of the tideflats, participating in intertidal scavenger hunts, eating all sorts of delicious shellfish, and competing in Shuckathalon, the world’s first intertidal oyster sports competition. The menu includes raw Hama Hama and Blue Pool oysters on the half shell, fried Hama Hama crab cakes, steamed clams and oysters, pan fried oysters, and more! There will be a beer garden featuring beer from Shelton-based Grove Street Brewery and cider from Chimacum’s Finnriver Cidery, live music from Union-based band Sideways Reign, catering by Smokin Mo’s of Union, hand-dipped Olympic Mountain Ice Cream, and demonstrations by local artists. At 1:30 we’ll all gather on the shore to watch amateur oystermen & women compete in the four Shuckathalon heats: cluster picking, clam digging, single picking, and (of course!) oyster shucking.
This all-ages event is a fundraiser for the Hood Canal Education Foundation. Admission costs $10 per person and is free for kids age 12 and under. Ticket price does not include food or drink. Tickets are available at the Grove Street Brew Pub in Shelton (233 S. 1st Street), at the Hama Hama Seafood Store (12 miles north of Hoodsport on Hwy 101), online at www.hamahamastore.com, or via telephone at 888-877-5844. Tickets are limited so we strongly recommend you purchase them ahead of time.
If you’re coming from out of town and want to stay the night, check out The Waterfront at Potlatch because they’re offering 10% discounts on Saturday May 21st to Rama attendees.
